Time to play the good ole broken record. My sis from another miss has told me that she wants to do the “big chop.” Now, the big chop is basically cutting your hair whether for a drastic cut or to help your hair grow back evenly and healthy. Whatever the reason, it is your personal choice. It seems however that it is traumatic mostly for those around the woman who has made this decision. I know the old adage of a “hair is a woman’s crown and glory” but as time and styles have shown us that crown can look anyway the person has chosen. My sis has been growing her hair for almost as long as I have known her and had gone through many different hairstyles. Weaves , wigs , braids , different haircuts etc. I have always had fun when she styles her hair because she knows what she loves and what frames her face. I myself have gone through a plethora of hairstyles in my life and will probably continue that process. After all, moods change and guess what IT’S MY DAMN HAIR.
Above is sis with her hair at one of its longest states. This was the current hair before she made the decision to color it.
This is the length after the color. Unfortunately partly due to the color process plus stress, sis has had some breakage in the back.
The breakage has prompted her to decide to chop her hair. She has told me she has received messages about her cutting her hair almost to the extent of hate mail. Now it is 2016. Why are we still concerned what people do with their crowns? It is bad enough that natural hair has to fight to even be respected in the workplace as if hair somehow is an entity onto itself. People are making comments basically about why why why. Guess what?? Not your head. Not your concern. I don’t care what this may do to you, it doesn’t concern me. My sis has the support of her hubby and even though she doesn’t need it, it is beautiful that she has it. This man has to see his wife everyday and if he doesn’t have any issue especially since this will make his wife happy, why be up her proverbial ass about it?? I swear this is how you know muthafuckas have too much time on their hands. There is plenty enough in the world for you to worry about. My sister’s crown and glory isn’t one of them. Get on with your life and let her get on with hers.
